You need to have certain items handy in your garage for the winter. This ensures you won't have trouble finding them after the snow starts.

We’ve provided a blog that will help you to better keep track of what you need.

Proper storage is essential for the garage

Although it might not seem important, proper storage is vital. When you have your items sorted and stored in the right locations, including items hanging from the walls, such as shovels, it makes finding them easier later.

The garage is great for various types of work and activities during the warmer months. However, when it starts to cool down, the seasonal items should be put away to ensure you have space for your vehicle.

You will also want to considergiving some things to charity and recycling to help reduce the amount of clutter in the garage.

Items needed for the winter

1. Get the snowblower checked out

If you have a snowblower, you want to be sure that it is in good shape. This means ensuring that it has recently had a tune-up and an oil change. Start it before the first snow to be sure it is working right.

2. Keep your snow shovels handy

Do you have a couple of good snow shovels? Make sure they are still in good condition from last year. After all, you don’t want the handles to break when you are shoveling wet and heavy snow, or when you try to break through ice that formed on the sidewalk.

3. Abrasives and melters

You don’t want to have any slip and fall injuries on your property. Therefore, you need to have the right melters and abrasives in the garage and ready to go. This includes a bag of salt for melting, along with a bag of sand or abrasive gravel to help reduce the risk of slipping and falling on ice.

4. Do you have an emergency generator?

If you happen to live in an area that gets power outages, you need to be sure you have a generator that works well. You also need to have a full tank of gas for it.

Important safety note: You should never run your generator in the garage. The exhaust it creates is carbon monoxide, which can get into your house and poison you. Not only could it make you and your loved ones ill, but it can lead to death.

5. Is your car ready to make it through the winter?

Will you have everything you need for your vehicle to make it through the winter. Do you have enough bottles ofwindshield washer fluid? Do you have your ice scrapers and snow brushes stowed in the vehicle? If you have a vehicle that stays outside of the garage, do you have jumper cables available in case it needs a jump?

6. The fun gear
